This mathematics game is designed for young learners.  Students construct mental images for the numbers one through ten rather than relying on counting. The ten frame allows students to reference numbers to the benchmark number ten.  This begins the thinking in tens process.  For example, if there are nine dots on a card, a student might reason, “Nine, because there is one missing.”  Students also develop their spatial memory. With the variations in the arrangements of dots, students generalize their concept of number. Additive reasoning is developed as students determine that there are eight dots on a card by using six and two patterns or five and three.
