Match Ten was designed to provide opportunities for students to think in tens. SInce ten is the basis of our numeration system, being able to think in tens is crittically important. As students play Match Ten, they come to know the addiction combinations that make ten, which then helps in adding and subtracting. As students play the game, they are building mental images of numbers from one to ten that they can draw upon in many mathematical situations. The ten frame structures the dots so the mental image is easier to construct and remember.. The cars show various arrangements of dots for each number from one through ten in a ten frame.
